about

There is a new force in the world of metal! "The Downfall of Piracy" is debut single from 'Royal Navy Metal' act Ship of the Line. Adapted from a poem attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the hook laden single celebrates the defeat of the famed pirate Blackbeard by the valiant Lt. Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy in 1718, precisely 298 years to the day from the single's release.

Headed by the brave Captain Hobbs, Ship of the Line stand ready to defend the cause of epic music worldwide. The Admiralty have released the following statement:

"For too long have the nefarious forces of piracy held sway over the airwaves. SHIP OF THE LINE will no longer stand for such knavery. We are here to challenge all so-called 'Pirate Metal' bands for supremacy of the high seas! LONG LIVE THE KING!"

lyrics

LYRICS:

Have you heard of a bloody battle lately fought upon the sea?
It will make your ears to rattle and your admiration cease.
Have you heard of Teach the Rover, and his knavery on the main?
How of gold he was a lover, how he loved all ill-got gain?

Teach married to a lady and he gave her five hundred pounds.
But to her he proved unsteady for he soon marched off the ground.
He returned then, as I tell you, to his robbery as before.
Burning sinking ships of value, filling them with purple gore!

Maynard as he sailed soon the pirates did espy.
With trumped he then hailed them and to him they did reply,
"Teach is our commander!" Maynard said, "He's the man
Whom I'm resolved to slay, sir, let him do the best he can!"

Replied Teach unto Maynard, "You no quarter here shall see,
But be hanged from the mainyard, you and all your company!"
Maynard said "I've none desired of knaves as thee and thine!"
"None I'll give," Teach then replied, "Me boys, gimme a glass o' wine."

Took the glass and drank damnation unto Maynard and his crew,
To himself and generation, then the glass away he threw.
Maynard was resolved to hang him, though he'd cannons nine or ten.
Teach a broadside quickly gave them killing sixteen valiant men.

Maynard boarded and to it they fell with sword and pistol too.
His sailors showed great courage killing the pirate crew
Teach and Maynard fought under the mainsail high
Maynard cut the pirate shorter - losing his head Teach then did die.

When the bloody fight was over, we're informed by letter writ,
Teach's head was made a cover for the jack staff of the ship
Thus they sailed to Virginia and when they the story told
How they'd killed the pirates many they'd applause from young and old.
